To determine whether a category is adequate for a POI or not, it is important to research about the POI using official or reliable resources. Then, it is also important to become familiar with the Category Rating Options below:
Rating Option | Explanation |
Correct | The listed category accurately describes the dominant identity of the POI. No other category provides a better description of the POI. |
Approximate – too general | The category is accurate, but overly broad. There are other categories in the list that are more specific to the POI. |
Approximate – too specific | The category is accurate, but only partially fits the listing. The category is too specific or only matches a specific aspect of the POI. |
Missing | No category is provided for the POI, but there is at least one category on the list that accurately describes the POI. |
Incorrect | The category does not accurately describe the POI. |
Another essential step before rating the POI’s Category is to familiarize yourself with the Category Reference List that can be found here: https://www.tryrating.com/rating- apps/ds/133437/latest/index.html#/poi-categories/
There are a lot of Categories listed there, so it might take a few seconds for the list to appear. This is what it looks like:
Now, take a couple of minutes to browse around. Set the appropriate category localization in the drop down menu to match your locale. If a restaurant advertises itself as serving both steak and pizza, but primarily serves steak according to their official website, then dining ^restaurant ^ steakhouse is the best category. This means that serving steak is the dominant identity of the POI.
If the official website and social media pages or user reviews have conflicting information, always prioritize the official website. Make sure to check “About Us” subpages, general descriptions about the POI’s dominant identity or what it is famous four and look for menus too.
If after checking all of these resources, the category is still unclear, look at the POI Name. If online resources describe the POI as serving both steak and pizza equally, select the first keyword in the name of the POI as the best category.
To understand the differences between these two ratings, let’s consider a POI named Family’s Steak and Pizza. They are famous for their steaks, but they also serve pizzas, calzones, sandwiches and beverages. Official website and social media pages confirm they are primarily a steakhouse.
