Important Notice

Here are some highlights of major changes:

The former app name is rated as Bad.
When the variant clarifies or improves the query, rate it as Acceptable.
Good should only be selected when there is a close resemblance between the query and the variant.
Rate Acceptable when the query or the variant are localized names (Please review GL. Section 6.2 Language transformations very carefully)
Transliterations : When the query and the variant are two different languages but have same meaning, intent and sound phonetically the same, rate as Good.

Task Approach

The purpose of this task is to evaluate the similarities between the query and the variant. If there is a high degree of similarities between the query and the variant, rate Good and lower the rating according to the level of similarity.

Use the research links provided to understand the meaning and intent of both the original query and the variant.

2 things to check:

Does the variant resemble the query?

Do they share the same intent? Did they direct you to the same app?

Do not release the task when…

The original query, the variant, or both, are in a language that’s not used in your market. Use an online translation tool to find the meaning and leave a note in the comment field explaining what you did.

For example

Your locale: th_TH

Query: recordatorio para beber agua

Variant: waterly drink water tracker

Correct category: Bad

The query is in Spanish. Using the online translation, this means ‘reminder to drink water’. Since the query is broad and could point to any apps but the variant is for a specific app, it is rated as Bad.

Quick recap of the categories

Good

A Good variant closely resembles the original query in appearance.

Acceptable

An Acceptable variant contains a spelling mistake or other issue, but still resembles the original query in appearance and has the same meaning and intent to the original query.

Bad

A Bad variant is no longer resembles, share the same meaning and intent as the original query.
