Use this rating if the TryRating result is an address (the rating should not be applied to POI and Business results!) and there is strong evidence the address does not actually exist. If sufficient resources are not available to make an informed decision, mark it Can’t Verify instead.
How to check if an address exists:
First, check on the Royal Mail website if the result address exists, it is easier to navigate and you are able to enter just the street name and number and find all matching results.
https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode
If the address is returned, it does exist and we can rate normally. However, while very rare, an analyst should use recent street imagery (within one year) if there’s evidence the address does in fact exist such as very recent construction. Otherwise Royal Mail should be sufficient. If there is no clear evidence, rate Can’t Verify.
Please remember to leave a comment that explains your logic, and how far you got in your research!
If we find that the address does not exist, you will find one of the following scenarios with the appropriate rating.
Checkpoint: in some cases, you will find that an existing address can be found in a different locality. Always mark such cases as Incorrect – Address does not exist and not Incorrect – Locality.
