How to Check if an Address Exists?
There are only three (3) resources that are available to confirm an address in France.
In no particular order (each analyst should decide what methodology best suits each evaluated result):
1.Cadastre.gouv.fr: This is the official Land Registry for France. Most (but not all)addresses/properties can be verified through this tool. Whenevercadastre.gouv.frconfirms an address, it is 100% reliable. Usually, this tool provides the exact polygon for each property it validates, which can also be helpful when trying to rate a PIN for example. However, it is very common for this tool to return “false negatives”, which means that some addresses ARE NOT registered in the cadastre database, and cadastre therefore does not recognize them. In many of these cases (cadastre does not recognize address) these addresses do in fact exist in real world, so whenever cadastre does not validate an address, further research is required to confirm that an address does not exist.Cadastre.gouv.frby itself is never sufficient proof to rate an address as non-existent.
2.Street Imagery: Whenever an analyst is able to verify/validate an address through street imagery, it is considered sufficient proof of the address’ existence. Street imagery is used in combination with cadastre.gouv.fr to determine if an address does not exist (i.e.: Cadastre does not recognize address + Street imagery tends to indicate address does not exist).
3.Official business URL: If a business lists an address in its official URL, and we can’t validate it through other means, we consider the address as valid.
If we find that the address does not exist, you will find one of the following scenarios with the appropriate rating.
•Response 1: TryRating will return the closest verified address. Rate relevance as Excellent.
•Response 2: TryRating will return the same address specified in the query. Rate relevance as Excellent and address as Incorrect – Address does not exist. The pin will be rated Can’t Verify.
•Response 3: TryRating will return the street without street number, which should be given a relevance rating of Acceptable.
Checkpoint: In some cases, you will find that an existing address can be found in a different locality. Always mark such cases as Incorrect – Address does not exist AND NOTIncorrect – Locality.
