1. Verifying POI Address:

The flowchart below contains the expected research steps that we should follow in order to verify the address of a POI:

Step 1- Official Business Website:

The first step in order to verify the address of a POI is to look at the address mentioned on the official business website. Once the address is found there, we should compare the address on the official business website to the one we have on TryRating and rate according to guidelines. If the address on TryRating contains more components than the address found on the official business website, please make sure to verify the accuracy of the additional components using other online resources.

Step 2- Business Social Media Pages Updated within the last 6 months:
Assuming the POI does not have an official website, the next step is to search for the official business social media page that is listing the address. It’s important for the business social media page to be the official front of the business and contains recent content not older than 6 months posted by the business.

Step 3- Using Street Imagery and Makani.ae:
Sometimes, the official business website does not list an address for the POI. Furthermore, the POI might not have an official website or a social media page at all. Sometimes, the location of a POI can be confirmed using recent street imagery or recent online images showing the POI and its surroundings. In this case you can find the address of the location identified by street imagery on Makani and rate accordingly. In addition, some address details such as street number might be visible on street imagery and can be used to confirm the POI address even if they are not visible on Makani.
The UAE market has plenty of street imagery resources varying in their coverage such as makani.ae, Google & mapillary.com. However, please be aware that the data shown by these resources can vary in reliability due to how current the data is and you always need to ensure that you are using the most recent imagery in order to verify whether the business is close.

Step 4- Conduct a Web research:
If an address couldn’t be confirmed using all the resources above, you should conduct a web search and verify the address based on the consensus of two reliable online resources. If an address couldn’t be verified using reliable online resources, and we can confirm that one address component or more is incorrect/missing, then we can base our address accuracy rating on section “7.7 Can’t Verify” from Map Search Guidelines.
In this case, you should assume that all address components are required and rate according to the guidelines. If the TryRating address includes all the required components and there’s a conflict in between the reliable resources found, then you should rate as Can’t Verify.

Please refer to section 8.1.1 from Map Search guidelines in that the reliable resources
include:
Articles in primary publications (newspapers or similar publications that do their own reporting)
Crowdsourced user review sites
Resources, like data aggregators, spammy directory sources, etc., are unreliable, and consensus between unreliable resources should be disregarded.

Example:
Let’s examine how to rate the following result for the Cosmopolitan hotel in Dubai:

Step 1: We can see that the official business website is only listing the sub locality and the locality. Even though we can see that the address on TryRating is missing the sub-locality, the address on TryRating contains more information that we should verify which are street number and street name.

Step 2: The next step in order to verify the additional information is to look at the official business social media page. The business social media page has similar information to the official business website which means that we need to look at street imagery and Makani in order to verify the address

Step 3: Looking at the address information found on Makani, we can see that Makani search hasn’t provided us with a street number or street name.

Step 4: is to verify thestreet number/name by usingstreet imagery. In this case, we can see that the correct street number is 22 and not 9 as mentioned on TryRating.

Looking further in the street, we can confirm that the street name is incorrect as well:

Note: We used the street imagery from Mapillary and Google in order to verify street number and street name as the street imagery on Makani is older and is not showingstreet number and street name.

2. Verifying Address Result:

1- Locating the Address using Makani

Using Makani, you can locate addresses and verify all the address details. You can use Makani to find addresses or even to see possible address matches for a Search/AC query.

2- Searching the Address Using Other Maps Providers

If an address was not found on Makani, you can search other maps providers for the address, and rate based on the consensus of two or more maps providers. For example, let’s assume we have a street result on TryRating and that Makani does not mention a name for this Street: – If other map providers do not mention a name for that street, rate Can’t Verify

3. Commenting:

Address Does Not Exist Guide For UAE
It came to our attention that many analysts don’t have the correct understanding behind when to rate address doesn’t exit.
This document will help guide you on how to rate address doesn’t exit.
So, how do you confirm the existence/non-existence of an address in the UAE market?
Is there any official website or trusted step by step tofollow that makes any additional research unnecessary?
First, you need to check the maps provided by UAE government on HTTPS://WWW.MAKANI.AE/DESKTOP

If you cannot find an answer regarding a certain address on Makani, you should do a street imagery research, services) check signs and street numbers (Makani and Google provide street imagery
In addition to the street imagery research, you can check multiple maps providers and see if you can reach consensus.

Please note the following

  • It is important to review section 7.2. Address Does Not Exist again
  • In rare cases, there can be an existing street address found in a different locality.
Always mark such cases as Incorrect – Address does not exist and not as
    Incorrect – Locality.
  • Use the Incorrect – Address does not exist checkbox for any Address Result that doesn’t exist, like a street or sub-locality result. This rating should not be applied to POI addresses.

Example

Query: Tunis St, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Result: Tunis St, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Correct Address Rating Incorrect – Address doesn’t exist as we have an incorrect locality.

Business/POI is closed or does not exist.

Business/POI is closed or does not exist: Research shows that the business is closed or that no such business exists at the result address. For chain businesses, always check their store locator first! Please note that if you check this box, you will still need to rate the relevance of the result as if it did exist. Use your best judgment to determine whether the result does not exist, or if the result components are incorrect.

Checkpoint: When determining if the business is closed, please check to see 1. if the business exists in the immediate surrounding area. If so we would not consider the business closed, but the address to be incorrect. 2. We want to use all of the information provided in TryRating, even information not rated, such as URL and phone number, to research the result.

Research Resources

Confirm Data Accuracy: Best Practices – United Arab of Emirates (AE)
Research involves verifying the data through an official source or 3 unofficial sources.
Clearly unreliable sources should not be considered at all.

Use official resources like businesses’ official websites, national postal service websites, and government websites whenever possible (Guidelines section 2.1.1) If you can’t verify the data correct or incorrect, rate Can’t Verify.

To give you some guidance, please see below some of the resources that Analysts from United Arab of Emirates (ar_AE) market have reported to be helpful when performing research:
Helpful Map Applications:

Please note that for POIs you should verify the information available on official websites, so if the official website does not list a postal code, then it’s OK for the POI result not to have a postal code. Since Postal codes are only used in the Emirate of Sharjah, it’s still okay not having a postal code if it is not mentioned on the official website.
Please bear in mind that ONLY POIs (Street # or Building name – Unit # – Street Name – Sub Locality and Postal Code) are only mandatory component if they were
mentioned on the Official Website.
