How do I check if an address exists?
Check Canada Post’s official website at https://bit.ly/1gIM229. Canada Post’s postal code finder is one of the main resources we have for confirming addresses. Please see this document https://bit.ly/2OIi43V, which will help you to get the most out of this resource.
In the province of Quebec (where most fr_CA results will be) we can also use the government’s online land registry, Infolot (https://appli.mern.gouv.qc.ca/infolot/). The free access is sufficient, and it doesn’t require any downloads. It’s especially useful for more rural addresses where Canada Post or a general web search may leave you without enough evidence to determine if the address exists.
If you find that the address does not exist, the following scenarios demonstrate how to rate correctly:
Checkpoint: In some cases, you will find that an existing address can be found in a different locality. Always mark such cases as Incorrect – Address does not exist AND NOT Incorrect – Locality.
