This learning guide aims to highlight several common mistake trends among analysts in Malaysia. Please review the following guideline sections as it will help you rate more accurately.
Global Guidelines
Country Specific Guidelines (Malaysia)
1. Transit Stations
Query | Stesen lrt ara damansara |
---|---|
User location | 3.1420898438,101.5795898438 |
Viewport Age | Fresh |
Centre Viewport | 3.15840125348,101.574798641 |
The query can be interpreted in two ways:
Ara Damansara)
Result is for (Taman Paramount LRT Station). Perform research to find out where the result is located compared to the query. Rapid KL’s official route map (https://is.gd/ofvpfX) shows that there are at least 4 closer stations to Ara Damansara sub-location.
Other mapping resources also provide context. Search for Ara Damansara > Nearby function > Search for LRT. Result is relatively far from Ara Damansara. (https://is.gd/V02E5d)
Considering the above explanation, Relevance is Bad.
See GL Section 5.16.1 Transit Queries – [san jose station] example.
Context from other mapping resources (https://is.gd/V02E5d) Rapid KL’s official route map (https://is.gd/ofvpfX)
Query is for a chain business (AEON) + general location modifier (Nilai). Disregard viewport and user location since a location has been specified in the query.
Determine if there are AEON locations within/around Nilai. Since the query does not specify the type of AEON (e.g. AEON Mall, AEON BiG), any type of AEON will be considered equally.
Research shows there’s only an AEON Mall in Nilai, and an AEON Wellness within the same mall. Our result (AEON BiG) is among the next closest results to Nilai. (https://is.gd/KYO22a)
Considering the above explanation, demote for distance. Relevance is Good.
See GL Sections 2.3.1 Explicit Location, 5.18 Relevance: Service
Level Mismatch – [walmart] example, and 10.6.3.1 General Location Modifier.
Query is for a chain business (Xing Fu Tang) + specific location modifier (Dataran Pahlawan). Disregard viewport and user location since a location has been specified in the query.
Determine if there is a Xing Fu Tang branch at Dataran Pahlawan. If there is one, all other branches not at Dataran Pahlawan will be rated as Bad. If there isn’t, the query location will be treated as a general location modifier.
Research shows there’s a Xing Fu Tang branch at Dataran Pahlawan. Our result is located at Taman Kota Laksamana and doesn’t meet specific location intent. (https://is.gd/3pIQFb) (https://is.gd/51r4Mt)
Considering the above explanation, Relevance is Bad.
See GL Section 10.6.3.2 Specific Location Modifier.
Query could be interpreted as for a chain business (EV World Hotel) + general location modifier (Putrajaya), or for a specific POI (EV World Hotel Putrajaya). Disregard viewport and user location since a location has been specified in the query.
Comparing May 2019 and Dec 2020 street imagery shows that Hotel Zamburger now operates here, and the official page of EV Hotel Putrajaya is out of service. With this strong evidence, it is safe to say that the business is closed. (https://is.gd/BVGrTH) (https://is.gd/NlVeTw)
Even though the business is closed, Relevance is rated as if the business still exists. Result is an exact match to the query, hence Relevance is Navigational.
See GL Sections 2.3.1 Explicit Location, 4.2 Business/POI is
Closed or Does Not Exist, and 10.6.3.1 General Location Modifier.

When the name of a business has changed (not closed & replaced by another business), Name Accuracy is Incorrect.
Research shows that the above business has changed its name from BYOB to KitaRefill. Evidence is found from its official website and a reliable news article.
(https://is.gd/OezHhQ) (https://is.gd/Oz81I2)
See GL Section 6.2.3. Incorrect Name – [Sommet Center] example.
Pay close attention when rating Name Accuracy. Demote Name Accuracy to Partially Correct when names contain formatting issues such as missing/unexpected spaces, incorrect capitalisation, and punctuation issues. Also take into consideration whether the user can still identify the business from the name with issues, and that there are no Classification errors. Please review the below examples and see GL Section 6.2.2.1. Minor and Moderate Misspellings and Missing or Extra Words.
The official name is FamilyMart
(without spacing). Name with a
space is not used by the
business. Classification is
correct. (https://is.gd/UBtpEe)
Incorrect capitalisation and
missing ‘Original’. However, the
name can still be recognised by
the user. Classification is correct.
Lower case [s]entral is not a form
used by the POI, and is therefore
considered poorly formatted.
Classification is correct.

Be careful and conduct sufficient research when rating Address Accuracy. Familiarise yourself with the required components and additional requirements for Malaysian addresses as specified in the Country Specific Guidelines. Please study the
following examples and review the Country Specific Guidelines for Malaysia, andGL 7.5 Other Issue.
.
See CSGL 3.2.7.(https://is.gd/ULaUUe)Correct postal code is 11900. State should be Pulau
Pinang/Penang, never Pinang.
Penang Airport Parking | |
Address: | Penang International Airport, 11960 Bayan Lepas, Pinang, Malaysia |
Classification: | Parking |
Coordinates: | 5.2938165484623445, 100.26544690132141 |
Per CSGL 2, if a sub-location
exists (Taman Setia Jaya), we
must show it in the address.
Look for evidence using reliable
resources and street imagery.

Jalan Setia Jaya 18 | |
Address: | Jalan Setia Jaya 18, 83000 Batu Pahat, Johore, Malaysia |
Classification: | |
Coordinates: | 1.871041,102.946949 |
POI name is repeated in the
address line. This should be
rated as Incorrect – Other issue.
See GL 7.5 Other Issue.

Address: | Universiti Teknologi MARA Seri Iskandar, 32610 Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia |
Classification: | Colleges & Universities |

Classification: | Coffee & Tea |

Always rate Pin Accuracy based on best available evidence. When there is more evidence available to verify a pin’s location, the more precise the pin location needs to be.
In this example, street imagery provides strong evidence that the pin falls on the wrong part of the correct rooftop.
Therefore, Pin Accuracy is Approximate and the correct coordinates are (3.0060355221983777, 101.72539073685954).
See GL Section 9.2 Single Rooftop – Subway example, and the explanation for Best Available Evidence.
2. 7-Eleven
To determine Approximate boundaries, apply the Half ‘n’ Half rule by dividing the space between the closest public street or next building in half to create a line.
In this example, the pin is dropped off the rooftop. However, it still falls within half limits of the closest public street (Jalan Putra Permai 1a). Therefore, Pin Accuracy is Approximate with correct coordinates (2.995849,101.669713).
See CSGL Section 3.3 Special case for Pin.
