Key Differences Between Address Verification and Search
Search
Address Verification
• Pin reflects query address, not response address
• Response address is rated based on how accurately it reflects the query address

The query address includes the name of a shopping centre. According to GL section 3.2 General
Considerations, this should be ignored.
The shop number is not useful without the name of the shopping centre, so it should also be ignored.
The remaining address components are a locality, country, and postal code. They do not refer to a single property, so the address is not Valid. They also do not refer to a small enough area to be considered Reasonable.
The address is Invalid and Unreasonable based on GL sections 3.1 Single Property and 4 Is This a Reasonable Address?
Query Address Validity: Extra Token in Query Address
The query address appears to include two street types, Ave and St.
NZ Post shows that this issue does not make
the address ambiguous. There is an existing 2/26 Simkin Ave and no 2/26 Simkin St, so the address can only refer to one location.
The query address unambiguously refers to a single property, so it is Valid.
See GL sections 3.1 Single Property and 3.3 Examples of Valid Query Addresses.
Query Address Validity: Address Range
Research shows that the query address range exists, and it refers to a single business (The Esplanade Motel & Conference Centre). There are multiple buildings on the property but they do not have their own addresses, they all share the same address range.
A business with multiple buildings that use the same address is considered a single property so the query address is Valid.
See GL sections 3.1 Single
Property and 3.3 Examples of Valid Query Addresses.
Query Address: Invalid but Reasonable
Research shows that the query address refers to two buildings with multiple businesses in them.
This is not a single property, so the query address is Invalid. To be a unique address, it would need to include a unit to identify one specific rooftop/business.
The query address refers to a small plaza-like feature with only two rooftops, so it can be considered Reasonable.
See GL sections 3 Query Address Validity and 4 Is This a Reasonable Address?
The query address refers to an entire street, not a single property, so it is Invalid.
Satellite and street imagery show that the street cannot be considered Reasonable. It spans several blocks, there are more than 5 rooftops, and the area it defines is not within eyesight. Therefore, the query address is Unreasonable.
See GL sections 3.1 Single Property and 4 Is This a Reasonable Address?
Pin and Response Address Accuracy
In Address Verification tasks, the pin and response address accuracy should be rated in relation to the query address.
This query is for 12 Ron Guthrey Road, Christchurch Airport. The response address and pin point to 12 Ron Place in Bishopdale, which is a different property.
The pin accuracy is Wrong because the pin falls outside the property boundaries and next door area of 12 Ron Guthrey Road.
The response address accuracy is Incorrect (Street Name, Sub-Locality, Postal Code) because these components do not refer to the same location as the query address.
See GL sections 6 Pin Accuracy and 7 Response Address Accuracy.
Postcode
12 Ron Guthrey Road Christchurch Airport Christchurch 8053
Pin Accuracy
The query address refers to a single building within a shared space.
Satellite and street imagery show that the pin falls on the parking lot between 555 Kaikorai Valley Rd and 555A. The pin is within the boundaries of the property but not on the correct rooftop, so pin accuracy is Approximate.
See GL section 6.2 Single Rooftop.
The query address range refers to The Esplanade Motel & Conference Centre. This business has multiple rooftops, but it is not a business complex and does not contain additional businesses, so it is not considered a campus and it is rated based on GL section 6.3.1 Multiple-Rooftop Rating.
Satellite and street imagery show that the pin falls on Harrington’s Motor Lodge at 301 Fitzherbert Ave, which is directly next to the intended business. The appropriate pin accuracy rating is Next Door.
The response address refers to the same unique location as the query address.
However, NZ Post shows that the sub-locality should be Auckland Central.
The response address accuracy rating is Incorrect – Sub-Locality.
See GL Section 7.3 Incorrect and CSGL section 4.2.2 Urban addresses.
4410
The query address is a range and the response is a single street number. This is considered Correct as long as the response number is within the queried range and matches the odd/even numbering system.
The response address refers to the same unique location as the query address and it is complete, accurate, and well-formed according to NZ Post.
The appropriate response address accuracy rating is Correct.
See GL Section 7.1 Correct and 7.3.1 Incorrect – Street Number.
