Use this rating if the TryRating result is an address (the rating should notbe applied to POI and Business results!) and there is strong evidence that the address does not actually exist. If sufficient resources are not available to make an informed decision, mark it Can’t Verify instead.
How to Check if an Address Exists?
•Although we have official sources that we can refer to for addresses in Singapore, such as SingPostand OneMap, the first step that we should do when researching an address is to look for possible POI occupying this address. Even though the result is an Address type result, there is a chance that a POI is located at this address. Hence the best indication of its validity is if we can find a POI at this address with official website to back it up.
•If we cannot find a POI that uses the result address, we can then proceed to search the address on SingPost and OneMap pages to see if it returns any result.
•Street Imagery: Most times, street numbers and street names can be seen clearly on street imagery. However, in some cases, they are hidden / unclear and cannot be determined. Additional research is therefore needed to find the result address’ closest neighbours along the street that are clearly visible in street imagery. If the street number looks reasonable and the format is used by the neighbors, we can consider the street number to exist until proven otherwise. If we see the neighbors using a different street number format, the address is more likely to be nonexistent.
When verifying an address that does not exist, below are the possible scenarios with their appropriate ratings:
•Response 1: TryRating will return the closest valid address. Rate relevance as Excellent.
•Response 2: TryRating will return the same address specified in the query. Rate relevance as Excellent and address as Incorrect – Address does not exist. The pin will be rated Can’t Verify.
•Response 3: TryRating will return the street without street number, which should be given a relevance rating of Acceptable.
