Confirm Data Accuracy: Best Practices – English (ZA)
The purpose of this document is to provide tips and resources to facilitate effective researching in the South African market.
Note: Research involves verifying the data through an official source. If no official resources can be found, rate according to consensus from multiple reliable sources.
Reliable resources include:
If you can’t verify the data correct or incorrect, rate Can’t Verify.
Use official resources like businesses’ official websites, national post websites and government websites whenever possible in order to verify data accuracy (2.1.1 of Guidelines)
Log out of social media!!
When conducting research during the rating process, please ensure you are logged out of any social media accounts. This is important for consistency reasons, as you should only rate based on what you can see as a user who is not logged into any accounts. We understand there are situations where the only reliable source to verify data is on a social media page that requires login. In such case, you should rate Can’t Verify. This applies to all task types, unless specified otherwise in the Guidelines.

Below are some recommended resources that have been reported as helpful when conducting research in ZA.
Recommended Government Resources
In order to verify the accuracy of postal codes in ZA we must consult with the
Postal Code website https://www.postoffice.co.za/ContactUs/postalcodes.html and download the relevant postcode spreadsheet. Once downloaded a list of sub localities with corresponding postal codes is available. This spreadsheet can be used to search for the correct postal code information.
As many street and sub-locality names have been renamed the following resources should be used to verify the accuracy of street and sub-locality names.
